Our first workshop is “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Youth” and will be on 3 consecutive Saturdays starting Jul 10th. Participants will learn how to set goals and figure out how to juggle the different demands on their time among other things. The flyer with registration link is attached here.

Sacred Poetry With Sukina Pilgrim

Sukina Pilgrim is a Poet, Spoken-Word artist, Playwright, Workshop Facilitator and Event Organizer and co-founder of Muslim female Hip Hop duo, and Poetic Pilgrimage. Sukina holds a BA (Hons) Degree in English Literature and Caribbean Studies and is currently pursuing an MSC in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes.

She has facilitated creative writing workshops across the world empowering communities to use the written word as a tool for dialogue and engagement. Born in Bristol to Jamaican parents Sukina was raised in a Rastafarian inspired environment however in 2005 she converted to Islam and since then she has played an intrinsic role within the British Muslim creative communities as a performer and events organizer.

Her work has been featured on the BBC News, World Service and Asian Network, ITV, Channel 4 and Al Jazeera and has been written about in the Huffington Post, Daily Mail, The Voice and many other international media outlets. In March 2015 Al Jazeera screened a documentary about her group called Hip Hop Hijabis.

Sukina made her theatre debut in 2016 in a production called Malcolm X at the KVS (Royal Flemish Theatre) in Brussels which was critically acclaimed and is currently writing a play for the KVS Theatre. In 2017 she delivered a TEDx Talk on the healing power of poetry.

Have you ever wanted to create the popular ‘pour’ style of paintings but didn't know where to start?

In this class we will cover all the basics and will guide you step by step to create your own pour painting!

If your are interested in following along, please arrange to get the items listed below before the virtual class iA

Supply List:

Materials for painting: (please see posts or links)

- 8 x 10 inch OR 9 x 12 inch canvas or canvas panel. (Buying a pack is recommended)

- Pour paints. Try to get 5 or 6 different colors including white. These are sometimes labeled as ready-to-pour paints.
- Pour medium (recommended but optional)
- Plastic or paper cups
- Popsicle sticks for stirring
- Something to lift the canvas off of the work surface. You can use upside down cups, thumbtacks or blocks of wood etc. for this purpose
- A level surface to create your painting on

Optional (but highly recommended) items to keep things clean:

- Apron (optional)
- Gloves (optional)
- Garbage bag (optional)
- A shallow try that your canvas can fit inside of. An old baking pan can also be used.

Optional items for Islamic calligraphy:

-An Islamic Calligraphy stencil (optional)
- Gold Paint Marker (optional)

*Supplies can be purchased from Amazon or your local craft store such as Michaels.
